Our Philosophy

In school, you are expected to write. But do they show you how? Think back to your last writing lesson in school. Writing skills undergird every aspect of your academic career, from exams to university applications and beyond, yet it is rarely taught explicitly. Instead, you learn through trial and error, perusing model essays or relying on essay-specific comments.

Good writing is good thinking. Everything starts from the mind. Learning to write teaches you to think incisively and critically. These qualitative skills will enable you to perceive, analyse and evaluate—valuable skills that go beyond simply scoring in exams.

Outstanding writing, outstanding portfolio. In the humanities, every key aspect of your university application relies on the written word— your grades, personal statement, admissions testing, and particularly, extracurriculars. The only way to distinguish yourself as the best candidate is through winning essay competitions and building up your portfolio.

When applying to read Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford University, the first person whom I approached for guidance was George. With George's guidance, I gained a head start in incorporating clarity, concision, and precision in my essays. From my tutors' feedback, it is clear that George's approach is exactly what they look for in first-class essays… (continued)

I've worked with Corey on 2 John Locke Essay Competitions, in 2023 and 2024. We managed to achieve high distinction on my first attempt, and we're currently waiting for the results for 2024. I'm also working with Corey on the Concord Review competition.

My experience with Corey has been brilliant. Each session provided me with detailed feedback that helped me improve as a writer in general-- not just for the competitions. His tips and suggestions make me a better writer overall.

George possesses deep insight into what makes for strong argumentation. Over our sessions, he guided me to recognise issues in my thinking and writing that I had not even been aware of myself and introduced an uncompromising model of structure and clarity to them. To say my lessons with him were eye-opening would be an understatement; he’s entirely changed the way I view writing.

Working with Corey has been immensely helpful in my academic journey thus far. Corey has helped me with written work for competitions since 2023. Despite the short time we have working together, he has not only helped me rapidly improve my research and writing skills but has also helped me secure shortlist status for the John Locke Essay Competition for two years in a row now… (continued)
